Millbrook Skate Park
Challenge
Millbrook Parish Council had recently installed a skate park for the local children and they wanted now to provide lighting to the skate park. The council had funding for the project and were now keen to deliver the lighting.
There were a number of challenges to reach the goal, as the columns were to be 6m in height planning permission was required, in addition to this the site was a previous land fill site so care was required when breaking ground to install the columns.
With these issues they need a provider that would help the council resolve these hurdles.
Solution
The Council came to SolarVision Lighting Technologies (SVLT) to see if they were able to help deliver the project. The SVLT team visited the site and discussed the requirements with the council, they were considering both a grid connected and a solar solution. SVLT provided the council with some advice resulting in their experience with skate parks plus a lighting design and quotation which the council then discussed at committee, they were comfortable with SVLT approach and decided to proceed with SVLT.
SVLT assisted the council with their planning application and provided them with information that was required and also provided them with a solution with regards to the ground breaking and how this would be executed safely and efficiently. In addition, there was a desire from the council that the lighting be controlled and that the lights would turn off at 9pm, which SVLT were able to accommodate due to their sophisticated programming ability.
Planning permission was achieved and the council then issues an order to SVLT. The work was completed in 2 days.
Outcome
As the nights draw in, the users of the Millbrook Skate Park will be able to enjoy skating on a well-lit skate park, and the adjoining residents know that the lights will not be on all night due to the programming set for the lights to be off at 9 pm.
