Challenge
Southampton City Council were working to deliver Pocket Park adjacent to Redbridge Station in Southampton. It was their intention to follow the route of a conventional grid connected lighting scheme; however, they discovered that they were not able to provide the site with a power supply due to the site isolation from any adopted highway. They had to look for an alternative that would work to their budget.
Solution
After some research the Council contacted SolarVision Lighting Technologies (SVLT) and asked if we were able to offer them a solution. SVLT visited the site and were then able to put a proposal together that would work with regard to the Councils budget and at the same time meet their requirements of a good lighting scheme for the footpath that was to run through the Pocket Park.
Outcome
The council were to layout the park and footpath and once the footpath was in and they had inserted the holes in the footpath to SVLT’s specification, SVLT were called in to install 3 Astral Solar Columns. The Astral Columns delivered the right amount of light for the footpath and also provided a dimming facility plus a PIR sensor all falling with the Councils budget.
The residents now have a well lit footpath which guides them through a wild and natural pocket park setting.
Organisation: Southampton City Council
Installed: ASTRAL Lighting Columns
