Challenge

The Church had an issue with the access to the front door in that it was very dark in the evening. They were looking for a simple solution that would not require any major works. They contacted SolarVision looking for a solution with a view that bollards may be the answer. As this was an old church, they were looking for a lighting scheme that was aesthetically pleasing and in keeping with the church’s environment.

Solution

After various discussions with Fr Patrick, SolarVision presented a couple of proposals with just bollards but also a HERITAGE column with bollards. These solutions were reviewed by the parish and then permission was sort from the Diocese to do this work. As the church had previously had a gas light in front of the building and the HERITAGE light actually resembled this, it was agreed that they would go with the HERITAGE solution. However, as funds were a little tight it was decided that they would get the column installed immediately and then look to do the bollards when additional fund would be available. No planning was required as the column to be installed was only 4m in height.

Outcome

The HERITAGE Column has been installed and proved the decision to choose it was correct. The light beautifully complements the church and harmonises with the surroundings. Using a colour temperature of 2700k, it produces a warm yellow glow, as shown in the photographs. The installation caused very little inconvenience to the church and once installed was fully operational, using all the features that the product offers from programming dimming and sensor use. Fr Patrick and the parishioners now have the peace of mind that the front area to the church is well lit.
